RV Cross Country Trip 2007

June 27 - July 2, 2007 - Michigan Lighthouses on Lake Michigan Slide Show
We began our trip by touring the lighthouses in Michigan which are along Lake Michigan.

July 2-July 9, 2007 - Visit to Little Chute Wisconsin Slide Show
We stopped to visit our grandchildren in Little Chute, Wisconsin. We spent the Fourth of July at Edna's, Jery's mother. The girl's enjoyed the pool at the campground. We also visited a historical reconstruction in Green Bay.

July 9-July 10, 2007 - The SPAM museum Slide Show
We enjoyed our visit to the SPAM museum in Austin, MN. Carole had her first taste of SPAM there. The people there were great. When we couldn't find the museum, a guard at the factory gate got in a car and lead us to it.

July 10-July 15, 2007 - Bismarck, North Dakota Slide Show
When else in our life were we going to get to North Dakota? Actually, we found a lot to do there. We visited the North Dakota Zoo. Fort Mandan where Lewis and Clark spent their first winter, Mandan Indian lodges, Fort Abraham Lincoln where Custer was based before his last ill advised battle. Custer had a really nice house at the calvary post.

July 15-July 21, 2007 - The Black Hills in South Dakota Slide Show
We had lots of adventures in the Black Hills. Of course, we visited Mount Rushmore, the Crazy Horse monument under construction, the Bad Lands, took a train trip and got pounded by hail, and Deadwood.

July 22-July 28, 2007 - Yelowstone National Park Slide Show
Yellowstone is the highlight of our trip. Even though we scheduled a week there, it was not enough. The elk and bison herds were impressive but the natural scenery, geysers, boiling water, and waterfalls, was spectacular.

July 31-Aug. 1, 2007 - Glacier National Park Slide Show
We took a lake cruise and a trip on a Red Jammer on the Road to the Sun. Glacier National Park is interesting. Unfortunately, this year the fire danger was very high (We didn't have a single campfire on our trip). Smoke from the fires south of the park blocked any view of the two glaciers we might have seen. Only 26 glaciers sill exist there. We did see the mountain goats and big horn sheep close up at the Continental Divide.

Aug. 3 - 5, 2007 Couer d'Alene Slide Show
On our way to Seattle, we decided to spend a couple of days at Couer d'Alene. The French traders named it that because the indians there were such sharp traders. We took a lake cruise and visited an Indian Casino while we were there. The cruise took us past a golf course with a floating green. They have cables so they can reposition it. If you avoid the water hazard of the lake then you take a boat out to the green.

Aug. 7 - 9 , 2007 Seattle Slide Show
The KOA in Seattle had very small campsites. Fortunately, a neighboring site let us park our car in front of his unit. We took a guided tour the first day and got orientated. The next two days we drove in to the Space Needle and parked. From there we caught a Grey Line bus to get to the other locations in Seattle. We saw the seafront, acquarium, underground, Pike Street Market, and the Space Needle. At the Pike Street Fish Market we got a dungenous crab which made a delicious supper.

Aug. 11 - 14, 2007 Port Angeles Slide Show
We changed to a campground west of Seattle near Port Angeles. On August 10th, Interstate 5 was starting some major work and getting back to the city was going to be a problem. We visited several lighthouses in the area. Even though I hadn't been able to contact my schoolmate, Stan Perin, I had an address near one of the lighthouses. We stopped by and both Stan and Mary Jo were at home. We took a tour over to Vancouver Island where we saw Virtoria and Buchart Gardens. Finally, we drove up to Rainbow Ridge and saw Olympus Mountain in Olympic National Park.

Aug. 15, 2007 Cape Disappointment Slide Show
A doe with two fawns wandered through our camp site when we first arrived. I wasn't quick enough to get a good picture. We visited two more lighthouses at Cape Disappointment and stode on the Pacific Ocean beach.

Aug. 19, 2007 Great Salt Lake Slide Show
In Salt Lake City, we went to the Moron Tabernacle and took the tour. We also went to Antelope Island out in the middle of the Great Salt Lake. There is a large free roaming bison herd on the island. The island has many springs which provide the fresh water for the island. There is a large farm on the island where they used to raise cattle.

Aug. 22, 2007 Colorado Slide Show
Boulder, Colorado, was on our schedule because two more classmates live in the area. We stayed with Gary in Castle Rock. We had a great visit and a wonderful dinner with Marv and Gary.

Aug. 24, 2007 Nebraska Slide Show
We stopped at the Great Platte River Road Archway on our way to Iowa. It's a very good museum and well worth the time.

Aug. 31, 2007 Iowa/Illinois Homeward bound
